Fleet history

Every day the fleet counts what it did: requests served, emails sent, commits made, sites deployed. These are those counts, one point per complete UTC day, kept for as long as they have been measured. A day that was not measured is left empty rather than filled in, and each chart says when its series was last measured.

Daily series

On paper the charts print as plain pictures of the whole record; the range switch and the hover readouts belong to the screen.

Weekly and monthly totals

Each figure adds up the days that were measured. Under it, the number of days with no measurement, which are left out. A star marks a week or month that is only partly inside a series’ record. A line that shows the highest day is a count that is never added across days (see below).

How it is measured

What one point is

One point is one complete UTC day. A day is written only once it is over, so today is never on a chart, and the newest point is yesterday. Every series keeps its own start: the first day it was measured.

Gaps and zeros

A day with no measurement is a gap: the line breaks and nothing is drawn across it. A day that was measured and counted nothing is a zero: a dot on the baseline. The two are never swapped, and a gap is never filled in. Totals leave gaps out and print how many days they left out.

Measured daily, or measured weekly and shown by day

The edge, mail and commit series are read every day. The series that come from the control panel, from voice-generation usage and from the local spend ledgers are measured weekly and shown by day: each day’s figure is real, but it was collected in a weekly pass. A series that works this way is marked on its chart. The time under each chart is when that series was last written.

Counts that are never added up

Sites deployed to is a distinct count for each day: how many different sites were deployed to that day. Adding days together would count the same site once for every day it was deployed to, so it is never summed across days. The same goes for repositories committed to, and for zones counted, which is a level and not a flow. Their weekly and monthly rows show the highest single day instead.

The edge figures

Edge requests, cached requests, data served and zones counted are taken over the zones that are on the accounts today. They are not counted over the zones that existed on each past day.

Commits

Commits are counted on the default branches of the repositories that one account can see. Work on other branches, or in repositories that account cannot see, is not in the figure.

Mail

Mail is counted by the day an email was created, and sorted by its latest status when the day was last read, so the delivered and bounced figures of a recent day can still move.

The record

The record is kept in a table that nothing trims, apart from the working copy the rest of the site reads, which holds only the most recent days. The first weeks were copied in from the nightly snapshots of the same figures.

Weekly and monthly totals

Weeks run Monday to Sunday and months are calendar months, both in UTC. A week or month that is not wholly inside the series’ record, because it began before the series did or is still running, is marked partial. A total is the sum of the days that were measured.

Open data

The same series, every archived day, as open data. Both files carry the same days and the same values as the charts. In both, an empty value is a day that was not measured, not a zero.

series

One entry per series: its name, weekly, additive, measured_at, first_day and values.

weekly

1 for a weekly snapshot shown by day, otherwise 0.

additive

1 when days may be added together, 0 for a distinct count or a level.

values

One whole number or null per UTC day from first_day to day. null is a day that was not measured.
